Pets can now be adopted from Will County Animal Protection
For the first time in agency history, the Will County Animal Protection Services is now allowing residents to adopt pets directly through the department, county officials said.
The new adoption program is a result of changes to Will County animal welfare policies in response to a nationwide increase in animal shelter populations, a county news release said.
Before the program launched, animals in the department’s care were transferred to other animal welfare organizations for adoption, the release said.
“The nation is experiencing overpopulation in shelters due to more intake than adoptions, and we are no exception,” Animal Protection Services administrator Anna Payton said in a statement. “We need our local residents’ help adopting these wonderful animals.”
Animals available for adoption can be found at IL1035.petfinder.com.
Residents can make an appointment to visit available pets by calling 815-462-5633 or emailing adopt@willcountyillinois.com.
Adoption hours are from noon until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the county’s animal services department, 22452 Cherry Hill Road, Joliet.
