Naperville News Digest: Spring plant sale planned for downtown Water Street Saturday; Rotary Club holding meet-and-greet at Quigley’s Irish Pub

Spring plant sale planned for downtown Water Street Saturday

A plant sale featuring hanging flower baskets, containers, flats and mixed pots will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Foyo Plaza on Water Street in downtown Naperville.

We Grow Dreams in West Chicago, a professional nonprofit nursery and greenhouse that trains and employs young adults with disabilities, is providing the plants, a new release said. Nursery employees do a variety of tasks, from planting and transplanting to assisting customers, running the cash register, and completing clerical and maintenance tasks.

The upcoming plant sale is way for the community to support their cause while completing their spring gardening projects, said Nick Ryan, executive chairman with Marquette Cos., which developed Water Street.

“Everything from We Grow Dreams is high quality and beautiful, and each plant is grown with love,” Ryan said in the release.

Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise will host an informal meet-and-greet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at Quigley’s Irish Pub, 43 E. Jefferson Ave.

The club meets for breakfast the first three Fridays of the month at 7 a.m. at the Naperville Country Club. Meetings include speakers, committee reports and volunteer opportunities, organizers said.

Members also hold fundraisers, including the St. Paddy’s Day 5K, Rotary Ride and NaperLights holiday display, to benefit local initiatives and charities.

“Our club is a unique blend of members both young and older who enjoy working together to make the world better,” membership co-chair Geoff Roehll said in a statement.

“We support youth and family initiatives locally and abroad and enjoy working on both hands-on projects and fundraising events. There are opportunities for everyone to contribute in whatever way suits them, but we always have fun.”
