Water Street Fine Art & Fine Craft Fair set for July 14

The Water Street Fine Art & Fine Craft Fair, featuring a number of Naperville artists, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, along Water and Webster streets in downtown Naperville.

The juried art exhibition and sale will feature local artists from DuPage, Will, Kendall and Kane counties showcasing their work, which will include paintings, graphics, mixed media, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, glass and wood, an event news release said.

The show also will feature a Young Artist Makers Tent presented by the DuPage Children’s Museum and live jazz by the Pete Ellman Quintet, the release said.

Carillon concert recitals to feature performers from U.S., Europe

Renowned carillonneurs from the United States and Europe will be playing Naperville’s Millennium Carillon in Moser Tower at 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 13.

The concert schedule is:

  • July 9: Carol Jickling Lens of Colorado;
  • July 16: Joanna Stroz of Denmark;
  • July 23: Dave Hunsberger of California;
  • July 30; Claire Janezic of New York;
  • Aug. 6: Margaret Pan of Massachusetts;
  • Aug. 13: Alex Johnson of Chicago.

The concerts are free and visitors are welcome to bring folding chairs or blankets to set up on Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave. Performances will feature classical selections, folk songs and modern music in the carillon style, according to the Naperville Park District.

DuPage County Animal Services holding kitten adoption event

DuPage County Animal Services will hold a kitten adoption event from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at its shelter, 120 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

Those interested in adopting a kitten should call animal services at 630-407-2800 to make an appointment during which they can meet all the available kittens. Adoption applications should be submitted by July 11 to adopt a pet on July 13, an animal services newsletter said.

Adoption fees will be discounted 50% for anyone who takes home a kitten between July 8 and 13.

There are also discounts available for those who adopt two kittens together. Adult cats from 6 months to 9 years old and senior cats older than 10 are also less expensive to adopt, according to the county’s website.

All cats adopted from the county are up to date on vaccines and preventive medicines and are microchipped and spayed or neutered.

Cress Creek Garden Club of Naperville awards college scholarships

The Cress Creek Garden Club of Naperville recently awarded $20,000 in college scholarships to students majoring in horticultural or environmental fields in the 2024-25 school year.

This year’s recipients include seven students are: Jenna Duncan, who will be studying at the University of Freiburg Germany through the IES Abroad Environmental Studies and Sustainability program; Madeleine Walbridge, a sophomore majoring in environmental policy and political science at Loyola University Chicago; and Shinmayi Subramanian, a freshman studying biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Also, two students at College of DuPage, Frankie Garcia, who is working on a degree in horticulture and florist shop management, and Judy Johns Schloegel, who is studying horticulture, and two students studying at the University of Colorado Boulder, Nainika Gupta, a senior majoring in environmental engineering, and Emily Lubek, a freshman who is pursuing an environmental science degree.
