Naperville News Digest: Will and DuPage offering deals on pet adoption fees; Downtown Naperville offering new text messaging service

Will County Animal Protection waiving dog adoption fees

Will County Animal Protection Services is waiving adoption fees for dogs until Aug. 30.

As part of its “Bark to School” promotion, the deal is available for dogs that are 1 and older, a news release said. The event coincides with children returning to school.

“When kids go back to school and the summer winds down, the house can start to feel quiet and a little lonely,” Anna Payton, administrator for the county’s animal protection services, said in the release. “We encourage people to celebrate back to school by adopting a dog.”

Donations of dog food, toys and treats will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the animal protection services office, 22452 Cherry Hill Road, Joliet.

Adoptions are available from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays. To visit available pets, make an appointment by calling 815-462-5633 or emailing adopt@willcountyillinois.com. Adoptable animals are featured on IL1035.petfinder.com.

DuPage Animal Services holding ‘Clear the Shelters’ event

DuPage County Animal Services will host its 10th annual “Clear the Shelters” event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the county’s animal services office, 120 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

In additions to animals available for adoption, the event will include raffles, food and drinks.

Interested pet owners can fill out an adoption form in advance and schedule an appointment with animal services, but walk-in appointments will also be accepted.  Those who adopt will receive a goody bag with items for their new pet.

All adoption fees are $10 now through Sept. 10. The department has dogs, cats, rabbits and small animals for adoption. County workers will help families find their perfect pet.

Applications and available pets for adoption can be found on the animal services section of the county’s website, www.dupagecounty.gov.
