Naperville police have made another firearm-related arrest in the Naperville Topgolf parking lot, their 21st in almost exactly a year.
Ivann Mitchell Altman-McCray, 31, of Chicago, was arrested Friday night outside the 3211 Odyssey Court business on three misdemeanor charges, including violating the state’s Firearm Concealed Carry Act, carrying a concealed firearm while under the influence of alcohol and unlawful use of a weapon, according to police and DuPage County Circuit Court records.
Altman-McCray was taken into custody Friday after an officer patrolling the business’ lot spotted a gun in plain view inside his vehicle, according to Naperville police spokeswoman Kelley Munch.
The officer spotted a “black-colored handgun sticking out from underneath a seat inside a vehicle,” Munch said.
Officers approached Altman-McCray and another person after they retuned to the vehicle and found that while Altman-McCray possessed a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card and Concealed Carry License, he had improperly stowed the weapon and was in possession of the firearm while allegedly intoxicated, Munch said.
Altman-McCray’s arrest comes just a few days after Camarion Jai Cobbins, 19 of Huntsville, Alabama, was arrested July 28 at the Topgolf parking lot on one charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Altman-McCray’s arrest brings the number of firearm-related arrests outside the venue to 21 over the past 12 months.
Naperville police also have been making arrests on drug-related charges outside the facility in recent weeks.
Most recently, officers took Dante Rashad Walker, 32, of South Holland, into custody Saturday on felony charges of manufacture/delivery of cannabis and possession of 500 to 2,000 grams of cannabis.
Officers made the arrest after detecting a strong odor of cannabis coming from a parked vehicle while walking through the lot and detaining Walker when he returned to the car, Munch said. Investigators later found a large amount of allegedly illegal cannabis and cash in the vehicle, she said.
Late last month, Jeremy Boykins, 36 of East Chicago, Indiana, was arrested in the Topgolf lot for possession of a controlled substance, police and court records show.
