New principal chosen for Schneider Elementary School in North Aurora

A new principal has been chosen for Schneider Elementary School in North Aurora, which is in the West Aurora School District.

With the recent appointment of current Schneider Elementary Principal Olivia Smith to an administrative position as student attendance and welfare coordinator for the district beginning in the fall, the West Aurora School District Board selected Justin McIntosh to serve as the new principal for the North Aurora school.

“As a student and then educator, I have benefitted from strong educational leadership that prioritized equitable outcomes for all, and it is a privilege to be given the opportunity to have a similar impact within a school community as wonderful as Schneider,” McIntosh said in a district statement.

McIntosh is currently assistant principal of Goodwin Elementary School in North Aurora. He previously served as an elementary teacher in Naperville School District 203, where he focused on lesson plans, monitored student progress and contributed to the school improvement team, West Aurora School District officials said.

McIntosh holds a bachelor’s degree in child and family studies from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from George Washington University.

Smith has served as the principal of Schneider Elementary School since 2017. In her new role in the district she will begin in the fall, she will provide leadership and vision for the ongoing implementation, development direction, review and evaluation of the district’s student attendance policies and procedures, as well as student health and wellness, district officials said.
