New stores selling furniture, gourmet sweets, home decor, mattresses and outdoorsy clothing have opened at Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie recently, and an electric vehicle dealership and a Japanese restaurant are slated to open in the fall, according to a news release from the mall’s owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
Mattress store Tempur-Pedic opened its doors in May, Swiss chocolatier Läderach opened in July and outdoor adventure gear specialist Arc’teryx opened on Aug. 3.
New stores have opened at the former Lord & Taylor site, including clothing store Zara in May, furniture store Arhaus in June and home furnishings retailer Pottery Barn on Aug. 2.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is scheduled to open in the fall, along with Japanese ramen restaurant Umaka Ramen.
“As we gear up for back-to-school season, Westfield Old Orchard shoppers can look forward to a variety of new store openings for the latest trends all in one place,” said Maegan Akers, general manager of Westfield Old Orchard.
Westfield Old Orchard is also slated for residential development. The Skokie Plan Commission last week approved Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s plans for 425 luxury apartments in five- and seven-story buildings, to be followed by 250 more in a second phase, according to previous reporting. The residential would be built in the northwest part of the shopping center, where the large former Bloomingdale’s department store operated.
The measure next will go to the Skokie Village Board for an ultimate decision, and that could come as early as September.
One suburb over, the owner and developer of Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles are planning to create 300 luxury apartments for the first phase of a two-phase redevelopment of the Niles mall, as part of the mall’s $440 million tax increment financing deal with the village.
