Evanston firefighters responded to a single-family home Sunday at approximately 2:45 a.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure, according to a news release from the department.
The two residents had gotten out of the house, in the 2100 block of Warren Street, the release said, and firefighters escalated the response to a working fire to make available additional resources and aid from outside fire departments.
Due to an aggressive fire attack, the fire was contained to a bedroom within 10 minutes, the department said, minimizing structural damage to the property.
The two residents required evaluation and transport to a local hospital for additional care, the release said, and they were not able to stay in the residence due to extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the structure.
The fire is still under investigation, the department said.
Two firefighters were reported to have sustained minor injuries but remained on scene.
