A veteran Niles Police Department commander has completed some advanced training, graduating from the FBI National Academy.
Niles police Chief Luis Tigera announced in a news release that Commander Tony Scipione
recently graduated from the academy, located in Quanitco, Virginia, and was part of a class total of 254 law enforcement officers who hailed from 47 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.
Additionally, Scipione’s FBI academy class included members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, seven military organizations, and seven federal civilian organizations, according to the release.
“Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend,” according to the release.
The release explains that participating officers usually have over two decades of law enforcement experience. After completing the FBI course, they usually go back to their home departments and agencies and take on command-level roles. The training in Quantico is done by special agents “and other staff with advanced degrees,” the release states.
While more than 55,000 have graduated from the 89-year-old national academy, Scipione is now one of five from the Niles Police Department who have come through, according to the release.
