The Northbrook Park District asks residents to take advantage of early savings by purchasing pool passes, registering for summer camps and sports leagues, getting theater tickets and planning to attend special family events.
The park district features two pools: Meadowhill Aquatic Center, which will be open May 25 through Aug. 11, and the Northbrook Sports Center Pool, open June 8 to Sept. 8. Meadowhill features four separate outdoor pools according to a news release. The Sports Center Pool features a 25-yard leisure pool with six lanes and other amenities.
Residents who purchase pool passes before May 1 can enjoy early fees of $149 for individuals, $109 for seniors, $159 for senior couples, and $205 for families of two, plus $39 for additional children.
Whether into arts, sports, STEM, figure skating, dance or theater, children and teens can participate in a wide array of enriching summer camps offered by the park district, June through August., the release said.
The park district has new camps this year including: “World Explorers Camp” for ages 3 to 5, where children embark on a journey “around the globe;” “Lil’ Artists Camp” for ages 5 to 7, where budding artists can explore a medley of art mediums; and “Artistic Explorers” for children ages 8 to 13 who want to get creative under the guidance of professional art instructors.
The release said to register by March 6 to save 10% on most summer camps and workshops. Those whose desired choice is full, are encouraged to put their names on a waitlist. Residents can meet summer camp supervisors during an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 29 at Techny Prairie Activity Center, 180 Anets Drive in Northbrook.
According to the release, the park district’s youth and adult sports leagues offer plenty of chances for competitive people to get their competitive juices flowing this spring.
Youth leagues include soccer from April 6 to June 1; boys’ lacrosse from March 18 to June 9; and girls’ lacrosse from April 16 to May 19.
Adult athletics include softball leagues from early May to late August, pick-up basketball from April 3 to May 15, pick-up soccer from April 9 to May 21, and women’s pick-up soccer from April 4 to May 16.
There will be special events for the whole family including having brunch and visiting with the bunny during “Brunch with the Bunny” on March 9, and taking part in an elegant tea party attended by a princess during “Spring Tea” on May 4, the release said. Both events require advance registration. The ever-popular free “Kids’ Fishing Derby” will be back on May 18, with no pre-registration required.
Also in the spring, the park district’s Northbrook Theatre will host two lively performances that will delight children and adults alike, the release said.
“Finding Nemo Jr.” will be presented by the Northbrook Theatre Youth Company from March 12 to March 16. It’s the story of how young Nemo’s desire to explore the world leads his father Marlin on an epic adventure across the ocean.
The immersive theatrical experience “Across the Sand” will return from April 14 to April 28 to bring to life the story of Passover with music and sensory storytelling from the professional cast of Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences.
