It’s time to register for the Northbrook Park District’s Cup-in-Hand Kickball Tournament, where grownups can have a fun and active time while enjoying some adult beverages, according to a news release.
Returning players include Amanda Neidhardt, who said she had a blast participating in her first tournament at Techny Prairie Park and Fields last year.
“We got a bunch of other parents together from my son’s elementary school and it was so fun to play against some teams we already knew and to meet new people,” she said in the release. “Everyone was friendly and had that ‘Northbrook charm,’ which made for a fun day.”
The tournament on July 20 is a great opportunity to play, have fun, and sit back and relax between games with friends and family, said Northbrook Park District Recreation Supervisor Dan Catron.
“This tournament is fun to host because it brings out the kid in everyone, playing with friends and having a few beverages at our very own softball field. It will remind the adults of simpler times, like when they used to play kickball as children,” Catron said in the release. “As an added bonus, this is the only event that we host where alcoholic beverages are permitted at Techny Prairie Park and Fields.”
Beer and seltzer will be available at the event, the release said. No outside beverages will be allowed. All players must be ages 21 and up.
Team captains will be given tickets that players can redeem for drinks (maximum two drinks per game). When teams aren’t on the field, players can purchase additional drinks. Food will also be available for purchase on-site through Landmark Inn Bar and Grille.
The tournament is part of new adult programming brought by the Park District in the last three years. This year’s edition is sponsored by The Landmark Inn Bar and Grille in downtown Northbrook.
This year’s Cup-in-Hand Kickball Tournament takes place at 11 a.m. July 20 at Techny Prairie Park and Fields, 1750 Techny Road in Northbrook. The number of teams involved will determine the exact schedule, according to the release. Each team will play at least two games, and a prize will be given to the first- and second-place teams.
Captains can register their teams online at nbparks.org/events/kickball-tournament or in person at any park district registration facility. Registration is $315 per team and the deadline to register is July 15.
All participants must sign a waiver and show an ID with proof of age at the start of the tournament.
