Northwestern built a 21-win season behind vastly improved defense, led by first-year assistant coach Chris Lowery. The defense did its job Friday, but the Wildcats lost a low-scoring slugfest 67-65 in overtime to Penn State and dropped out of the Big Ten Tournament.
