Oak Park mayor Scaman, Senate President Harmon to speak at Memorial Day ceremony

Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial start of summer. Along with commemorative ceremonies to honor fall military personnel, pools open for the season.

A Memorial Day ceremony is set from 11 a.m. Monday at the Peace Triumphant Memorial in Scoville
Park, officials announced on the village of Oak Park website.

According to the website, the program will include remarks from Illinois Senate President Don
Harmon, D-Oak Park, and Village President Vicki Scaman. The police department Honor Guard Unit will also be present for the ceremony, the website states.

Not only will Oak Park host a ceremony, its splash pads and other community swimming venues will open.

The pool season at Rehm Pool begins Sunday, while the Ridgeland Common Pool will open May 28, officials
announced on Park District of Oak Park website.

Passes good for all lap swim, pass holder-only, family and public swimming sessions at both pools cost
$82 for residents and $164 for nonresidents, while daily admission is free for kids under age 1, $15
for kids age 1 and older, $6 for lap swim for kids 16 and up and $13 for pool pass visitors, the website states.
