An off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a shootout with several gunmen Tuesday morning in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far Southwest Side, according to police.
The gunmen confronted the officer just after 5:30 a.m. in the 10800 block of South Campbell Avenue, leading to an exchange of gunfire, police said. The officer wasn’t struck, and no injuries were reported, police said.
The gunmen fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan, but one suspect was arrested nearby, police said.
The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating.
