Officer injured Wednesday night during disturbance in Woodlawn neighborhood

A Chicago police officer was injured Wednesday night when the officer tried to place a suspect into custody, and the suspect drove away striking the officer, police said.

About 8:40 p.m., the officer responded to a disturbance in the 6400 block of South Ingleside Avenue and approached the suspect who was inside a vehicle. When the officer attempted to place the suspect into custody, the suspect drove off hitting the officer, police said.

After a short pursuit, the driver was arrested and a handgun was recovered.

The officers suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for observation.
