O’Hare tug driver critically hurt after aircraft wing flipped his vehicle: police

A 64-year-old driver of an O’Hare airport tug truck was critically injured Saturday evening after his vehicle collided with an aircraft as it tried crossing a runway, according to Chicago police.

The driver was behind the wheel of the tug–an airport vehicle used to push aircraft– around 7 p.m. on an O’Hare taxiway, attempting to cross a runway and was clipped by an aircraft wing, police said.

The collision flipped the vehicle over, pinning the driver underneath, police said. The driver, who suffered head and lower body injuries, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition, but his condition was stabilized, according to authorities.

There were no other reported injuries, police said. Grand Central Area detectives were investigating.
