The Porter County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a traffic fatality Monday morning on U.S. 30 in Union Township.
Deputies were dispatched around 7:47 a.m. to the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the Lake County line, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, the department’s public information officer.
Police learned when they arrived that the male driver of a 2016 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle had died.
An initial investigation shows the SUV was traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 in the area of the Lake County line. The vehicle struck a semi-truck trailer that was in the SUV’s lane of travel.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and Porter County Crash Reconstruction is investigating, McFalls said, also thanking other agencies assisting with the crash.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased driver during this difficult time,” he said.
