A man was killed and his passenger critically injured Sunday night when their pickup truck hit a tree near Antioch, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The identity of the victim, a 25-year-old Antioch man, has not yet been released. The passenger, a 27-year-old man from Antioch, was brought to a hospital with what police said were life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened at around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of Deep Lake Road and North Avenue, police said.
The 25-year-old was driving a 2022 Ford F-350 pickup truck west on North Avenue at an apparently high rate of speed when the truck left the road for an unknown reason, authorities said. The truck struck several signs before rolling and hitting a tree.

Alcohol appears to have played a role in the crash, they said. The incident remains under investigation.
