One person was airlifted to a Chicago hospital and a second also was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Westchester Township, police said.
The crash occurred at 7:01 a.m. June 7 at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Brummitt Road, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, public information officer for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.
The initial investigation and witness statements showed a 1994 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle was westbound on U.S. 20 approaching the intersection with Brummitt Road. A 2024 Honda CRV was southbound on Brummitt Road approaching US Highway 20.
The driver of the Honda is believed to have disregarded the stop sign and pulled into the Chevrolet’s lane, getting struck by the Chevrolet, police said.
The female passenger of the Chevrolet was airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center
with serious injuries. The male driver of the Honda was transported to a nearby hospital with non-
life-threatening injuries.
The Porter County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating.
