One person was critically injured early Monday morning after a fire ripped through a residential building in Brighton Park, fire officials said.
Firefighters first responded to the blaze at 3857 South Kedzie Ave. at around 3:15 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
A man was taken to Stroger Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Five residents were displaced and a warming bus and humanitarian services were called to the scene.
Crews extinguished the blaze at around 4 a.m. The two-story building had “substantial” damage, Langford said.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
