Park City man charged after scuffling with deputy who smelled alcohol on his breath at drunk-driving panel, police say

A man attending a drunk-driving victim-impact panel scuffled with a sheriff’s deputy after the officer reported smelling alcohol on the man’s breath, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Nicholas A. Goheen, 41, of the 3500 block of Mary Avenue in Park City, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and other counts following the incident Wednesday at around 6:45 p.m. in the 19300 block of West Washington Street, near Grayslake.

Police said the sheriff’s sergeant was providing security at the impact panel when he saw Goheen, who appeared to be asleep in a chair.

The officer woke Goheen and told him that he needed to remain awake to receive credit for attending the panel. The officer smelled alcohol on Goheen’s breath and asked him to leave the room, police said.

Goheen, police said, became increasingly aggressive, pushing the officer and scuffling as the officer tried to place Goheen in handcuffs. The officer was eventually able to place Goheen in custody.

The officer suffered minor injuries, police said.
