A passenger died Thursday afternoon when the vehicle they were traveling in was hit at high speed and pushed under a trailer on the Borman Expressway.
Around 1:25 p.m., a semi was traveling in the second lane from the left on eastbound Interstate 80/94 near the Columbia Avenue overpass when it started to slow for traffic, according to an Indiana State Police news release. A Kia Sorento SUV was slowing or stopping behind the semi when it was rear-ended by a second semi traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact crushed the Kia underneath the trailer of the semi in front, police said.
A third semi was also hit from behind in the crash.
A passenger in the Kia was killed in the crash, but the victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family members, the release stated. The driver of the Kia and a child who was also a passenger were transported to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
