National Weather Service officials are expecting patchy smoke from Canadian wildfires to move into the Chicago area Friday along with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into portions of northeast Illinois after 4 p.m. Friday, which could see a high temperature near 75 degrees. Officials said smoke from Canadian wildfires could move in as well before 1 a.m. Saturday.
Air quality alerts were issued in central, east central and northeast Wisconsin.
In Chicago, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana Friday afternoon and early evening. Officials said the strongest storms are expected to be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.
Current morning conditions at Midway Airport are a few clouds at 64 degrees. Farther north at O’Hare International Airport conditions are the same at 67 degrees. Friday night, there is a 60% chance of rain with temperatures in the low 50s, officials said.
Saturday, highs are expected in the upper 50s followed by highs in the mid 60s Sunday.
