Waukegan police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a patient at Vista Medical Center East who died after being found on the roof of the hospital.
The woman was a 28-year-old Waukegan resident, the coroner’s office said. Her name has not yet been released.
The coroner’s office said she had been admitted days earlier for a medical issue. Authorities did not say how long the woman may have been outside before she was found.
She was found unresponsive on the hospital roof at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday and was treated in the hospital emergency room for approximately 14 hours before she was pronounced dead late Thursday night, the coroner said.
The coroner’s office said it contacted Waukegan police after learning of the unusual circumstances of the woman’s death. Police have initiated an investigation.
The coroner’s office said it conducted an autopsy on the woman Friday, but it did not disclose any information about the cause of death.
The coroner and police expect to hold a press conference in the near future to disclose additional information.
Vista East Medical Center did not immediately return a phone call seeking information.
