Pedestrian killed in second fatal Waukegan hit-and-run this month

Waukegan police are seeking the public’s help with information related to a fatal hit-and-run accident over the weekend.

Authorities said a 60-year-old man was found Saturday in the roadway on Illinois Route 41, near Northpoint Boulevard. The man, who had sustained severe injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The vehicle that hit the man did not remain at the scene. WPD’s Major Crash Unit, assisted by a number of area police departments, processed the scene and collected what police said was a significant number of debris in the road. Police had to close the highway for several hours.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call police at 847-599-2567. Anonymous tips can be sent via the Waukegan police tip app by texting 847411, using the keyword WPDTIP.

The death was the second hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in recent days in Waukegan. A North Chicago woman was struck early on Jan. 1. Police arrested a Waukegan man and charged him with leaving Lewis Avenue near Jenkinson Court after hitting Tiffany Thomas, 44.
