Person in custody as fatal shooting of 17-year-old girl in Humboldt Park ruled homicide

A person of interest remained in Chicago police custody Wednesday for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old girl the same day that an autopsy ruled her death a homicide.

The slain teen was identified as Stephani Lopez Ramirez, of Humboldt Park, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police found the teenager inside an apartment on the 700 block of North Avers Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. She was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m.

An autopsy the following day revealed that she died from a single gunshot wound through the arm into the chest and her death was ruled a homicide.

Authorities released no information about the person in custody, but said no criminal charges had been filed as Wednesday afternoon, as Harrison Area detectives continued their death investigation.
