Person of interest in custody in deadly Lincoln Park shooting, Chicago police say

A person of interest is in custody Thursday after a deadly shooting in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood last week, according to Chicago police.

No charges have been filed, and police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Alexander Nesteruk, 34, approached people near the sidewalk in the 2400 block of North Clark Street, leading to an altercation just before 4 p.m. Nov. 27, police said. A man pulled out a gun and shot Nesteruk in the chest before fleeing in an unknown direction, police said.

Nesteruk, of Wheaton, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died Monday afternoon, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police released photos and videos Tuesday of the alleged gunman to help identify him. The video shows a man dressed all in black.
