Police and the Gary Community School Corp. are investigating a social media post discovered Tuesday that appears to be a student holding a weapon while posing in a bathroom stall at the West Side Leadership Academy.
School officials issued a statement saying administrators and police identified and detained the student and were investigating the incident.
“The safety of students and staff is our priority. Additional precautionary measures have been instituted to ensure everyone’s safety until the matter is fully resolved,” the statement said.
Weapons are banned on school properties, officials said. They said there would be no further comments until the investigation was concluded.
