Police investigate Sunday homicide in Monee, shooting deaths in Summit, Markham

Police in Monee said they’re investigating the shooting death of a 39-year-old man after responding to a domestic disturbance call early Sunday.

Separately, two people, including a 16-year-old boy, were shot and killed in Summit over the weekend, as was a woman who was part of a funeral procession passing through Dixmoor, according to authorities.

Also, in Markham, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed, according to authorities.

Monee police said they were called at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday to the 26100 block of Plum Tree Lane and told by a woman in the front yard of the home that a man was inside the home. Officers found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

He was taken to Franciscan Health Hospital in Olympia Fields and pronounced dead at 3:21 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The woman was also taken to that hospital, police said.

Police said a firearm was located at the scene, and they are working with the Will County Major Crimes Task Force on the investigation.

Dixmoor police said they are working on an investigation into the shooting death of 34-year-old Rhomesha Turner, who was part of a funeral procession leaving St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 14618 Lincoln Ave., Harvey.

Police said they responded to reports of shots fired just after noon near 147th Street and Seeley Avenue in Dixmoor, and found Turner suffering from gunshot wounds in a sport utility vehicle that crashed into a home.

Turner was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the medical examiner’s office. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the office. An address for Turner was not available.

Summit police said they are investigating two homicides, including that of a 16-year-old boy, stemming from shootings that took place within a short distance of each other.

Police said they responded just before 10:30 p.m. Friday to Hanover Street and 73rd Avenue and found the 16-year-old shot inside a vehicle.

He was identified by the medical examiner’s office as Jaydin Bahena, of the 5400 block of South 73rd Avenue, who had gunshot wounds to the head and neck. He was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m. Saturday at Loyola University Medical Center.

Police said while they were investigating that shooting, they were called to an area just to the north and found another man shot inside a vehicle.

Jose David Rosales, 34, of the 5300 block of South 73rd Avenue, Summit, suffered multiple gunshot wounds at that address and died at 12:08 a.m. Saturday at Loyola, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Both deaths were ruled homicides.

Summit police said their investigators are being aided by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

In Markham, 15-year-old Amar Hicks, of the 16500 block of Marshfield Avenue, was shot multiple times at that location and pronounced dead at 3:32 a.m. Sunday at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled his death a homicide.

Additional information about his death was not immediately available Monday.
