Barrington School District 220 has gone into a lockdown after report of Lake County sheriff’s being in pursuit of an armed man, according to information from district officials and the county sheriff’s social media page.
“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and multiple law enforcement are searching for a possible armed subject watned in connection with a Chicago homicide,” reads a post on the sheriff’s Facebook page. The man “fled on foot from Chicago Police from a business near Route 14 and Pepper Road.”
The social media post, which was added around 2 p.m. Tuesday, called the man “armed and dangerous.”
People are advised to avoid the area at this time.
Pioneer Press could not immediately reach state or local law enforcement officials for more details. One officer at the Barrington Police Department would only confirm there was a “law enforcement situation” in the area.
District 220 officials advised families that “out of an abundance of caution,” all of its schools are on “Secure Building and Teach” mode, where students remain in the building and classes but no one is allowed in or out, according to a message sent to families and provided to Pioneer Press.
“All students and staff are safe and class is continuing as normal,” the notice reads.
School officials anticipate that dismissal may be impacted due to the police activity and possible road closures in the Barrington area.
