Police squad car involved in accident Wednesday evening in Englewood

A Chicago police officer and a woman were injured Wednesday evening in an accident involving a squad car in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., a 32-year-old woman was traveling west in the 5900 block of South Racine Avenue when a squad car was headed north on Racine Avenue with its emergency lights activated, police said.

The woman went through a turn lane and proceeded through the intersection striking the passenger side of the squad car, police said. The woman was taken to UChicago Medicine, listed in fair condition. An officer was taken in fair condition with an injury to the left shoulder to an area hospital.

The woman was written a citation for no driver’s license, no insurance and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
