An 80-year-old woman died after police found her unresponsive in a Cedar Lake ditch early Tuesday morning.
Cedar Lake Police were called to the 10100 block of W. 129th Avenue for a report of a woman, who was not fully clothed, in a ditch off the side of the road, according to a news release. The woman had a faint pulse and she was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. She did not have any identification on her, police said.
Police spoke with two women who had come upon the woman and immediately called 911. At that point, police received word that the woman had died, the release stated. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the woman, who resided alone at the 13000 of Grasselli Street — about a four-minute walk from where she was found. The woman’s name has not been released yet, police said.
Police checked the woman’s residence and nothing was disturbed and no foul play was indicated. The woman didn’t have any obvious injury and a preliminary autopsy indicated that she had drowned, the release stated. The woman’s family was notified.
The woman was captured on video at the Cedar Lake Clubhouse on W. 129th Avenue around midnight Tuesday, police said. She was confused and disoriented, not fully dressed and carrying two pillows.
At this time, police believe that her death was an accident, the release stated.
Police are asking the public if they may have seen the woman late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 219-374-5416.
