Police wound man in Mount Greenwood: authorities

Chicago police officers shot and wounded a man Thursday afternoon in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the city’s Far South Side.

Officers were called to the 11000 block of South Millard Avenue around 3:50 p.m. for a report of a person with a gun, according to a preliminary statement from the police department. They met a man leaning out his window and tried to de-escalate the encounter, but an officer fired his gun, striking the man, authorities said.

Ald. Matt O’Shea, 19th, said the man was taken in serious condition for medical treatment at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. An officer was taken to another area hospital for observation, police said.

O’Shea said officers found the man’s relatives inside the home unharmed and escorted them to a neighbor’s. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating the shooting, as well as the department’s Investigative Response Team.
