Memorial Day weekend is considered the the unofficial start of summer, and Elmwood Park and Franklin Park are bringing in the season in a few ways.
In addition to events that commemorate the nation’s fallen military, including memorial services in Franklin Park and other area towns, like Oak Park, pools are set to open.
Franklin Park
The annual Memorial Day observance is at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Monument, west of Village
Hall, officials announced on the village website.
“The event, co-sponsored with the American Legion Post 974, will pay tribute to our deceased Franklin
Park veterans from all branches of service and will feature an honor guard, a ceremonial presentation of
the memorial wreath and more,” officials stated on the website.
Updates about a location change in case of inclement weather will be posted on the website, officials stated on the site.
The season opens Saturday for Pool on Pacific, officials announced on the Park District of Franklin Park website.
“Enjoy your summer close to home by making a splash at the Pool on Pacific,” officials stated on the
website.
Season passes are $54 for residents and $81 for nonresidents, while daily admission is free for kids
younger than 3, $9 for residents age 9 to 12, and $12 for nonresidents, the website
states.
Elmwood Park
Officials stated in the April edition of the village newsletter that, “Elmwood Park’s pool season opens Memorial Day weekend.”
Pool passes for Elmwood Park Family Aquatic Center are $50 for residents, $30 for senior citizens and $100 for nonresidents, officials announced on the village website. According to the website, daily admission for residents is free for ages 2 and younger, $7 for ages 3-17, $10 for ages 18-61 and $5 for seniors.
