St. John Neumann Parish, 17951 Dixie Highway: Summer Fest from 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 10. Food trucks, games, music, face painting, ice cream, bouncy house and a DJ will be featured. Blue Island

First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2519 Grove St.: Hosts the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s Lunch Bus through Aug. 23. Free meals will be distributed to youths 18 and younger from 10:40 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. Free crafts for kids will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to noon most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children must be present to receive the meals, which will be eaten on site. Information: 773-247-3663.

Family friendly worship this month features a back-to school backpack blessing. The service is at 10 a.m. Aug. 11. Attendees are invited to play tambourines and shakers during the opening and closing songs. A kid-friendly prayer and sermon are planned, and children may participate in communion. St. Donatus, 1939 Union St.: 119th annual St. Donatus Feast and Carnival Aug. 7 to 11. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8, 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 9, 5 p.m. to midnight Aug. 10 and noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 11. Games, bingo, rides, a beer garden and live entertainment will be featured, as well as a DJ. A $65 mega pass allows unlimited rides all five days. A $40 ride pass allows unlimited rides for a single day.

A Mass and procession with Caliendo’s Banda Napolentana is at 10 a.m. Aug. 11. Food includes pizza, Italian ice, Mexican food, Italian beef and sausage sandwiches and fried dough clams. Incarnation St. Terrance Parish, 5757 W. 127th St.: Golf outing Aug. 17 at Palos Country Club in Palos Park. Shotgun start is at 10 a.m. Four-player scramble is the format. Hole sponsors still are needed for $100 per hole. Participants pay $70 per golfer, which includes nine holes of golf, dinner and prizes. A cash bar will be available. Reserve a spot. Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchison Road: The Listening Lab begins after worship Aug. 4. This four-week spiritual formation is crafted to elevate communication skills through empathetic engagement and deep listening. Pastor Dawnn and other church members lead the group. Role-playing sessions, discussions and lessons on how to seamlessly integrate faith with listening skills to offer support and counsel in a Christian manner will be included. Register.
