Residents left displaced in extra-alarm fire at building overnight in Greater Grand Crossing

At least six residents of an apartment complex in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood were displaced after an extra-alarm fire broke out Wednesday night, officials said.

Shortly before 11:15 p.m., a 211-alarm was called by fire officials at a residential building in the 8000 block of South Vernon Avenue. Chicago police said six residents exited the building where the fire was raised to a 311-alarm.

The blaze spread to a building on the north side, but was eventually struck out, fire officials said.
