Illinois State police were involved in a pursuit of a vehicle connected to a robbery overnight that started in Englewood and ended in the Austin neighborhood where the occupants were taken into custody.
Shortly before 3 a.m., three Illinois State police units located a vehicle possibly involved in a robbery in Chicago, according to preliminary information from state police. A traffic stop was attempted near the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway at 63rd Street, but the vehicle refused to stop, police said.
A pursuit ensued on the streets and continued to the West Side to Monroe and Cicero in the Austin neighborhood where the alleged robbers stopped but fled on foot, then were taken into custody by Chicago police.
Shots were accidentally fired by a Chicago police officer during the foot pursuit but no one was struck. Two of the robbery suspects offenders were taken to area hospitals for observation. An officer was also taken to an area hospital for observation. A weapon was recovered on scene.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating.
