Rosary High School in Aurora to stage ‘Mamma Mia!’

“Mamma Mia!” the musical will be performed Nov. 1 to 3 at Rosary High School, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

The show features a number of songs by ABBA including “Dancing Queen,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Take a Chance on Me” and more.

The production team includes Rosary teacher Megan Carron, producer, vocal and orchestra director; and Rosary alum Julie Donahue, director.

The cast, crew and pit orchestra includes 50 students from Rosary High School and Marmion Academy in Aurora. Music will be provided by select members of the Rosary Chamber Orchestra and some local musicians, according to a press release about the show.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students, children and senior citizens.

Adults 21 years old and older can visit the Greek Taverna at the school before the show and during intermission for wine, beer and specialty cocktails, according to the release.

Author set for two events in St. Charles

Throughout October, the St. Charles Public Library has celebrated “One Book, One Community,” a shared, community-wide reading experience, featuring the book “The Music of Bees” by Eileen Garvin.

The month-long celebration includes a special presentation at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles featuring Garvin, who will talk about the stories and inspiration behind the novel.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Garvin will facilitate a workshop for aspiring writers at the Baker Community Center at 101 S. Second St. in St. Charles.

Workshops to examine tenants’ rights

Local residents are invited to attend two Know Your Rights for Tenants workshops in Aurora and West Chicago hosted by state Sen. Karina Villa, D-West Chicago, in partnership with the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness, to learn about the Landlord Retaliation Act and other tenants’ rights information, organizers said.

The workshops will be both in English and Spanish. The workshop in West Chicago will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Casa Michoacan DuPage at 900 E. Roosevelt Road. The Aurora workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Prisco Community Center at 150 W. Illinois Ave.

The events will inform residents about their rights under the Landlord Retaliation Act that goes into effect on Jan. 1, organizers said. The events will also present information on housing providers and legal assistance resources.

Senior talent sought for Aurora show

Senior Services at 2111 Plum St. in Aurora is looking for senior talent for the “Silver Senior Showcase” which will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the center.

The center is looking for seniors who are singers, dancers, jugglers, storytellers or have any other special talents to give a three-minute performance at the show.

Certified Naturalist program focus of session

A free information session is planned focusing on the Kane County Certified Naturalist program from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road in St. Charles.

During the information session, participants will gain insights into the program’s schedule, costs and benefits, organizers said. The program includes six core classes, four field trips and 30 hours of advanced coursework or volunteer work to earn the initial Certified Naturalist certification, officials said.

The program provides the opportunity to develop, lead and participate in conservation initiatives, according to officials. To maintain certification, continuing education training courses are offered annually.

The mission of the Kane County Certified Naturalist program is to promote awareness and citizen stewardship of Kane County natural resources through science-based education and community service, officials said. It is a cooperative program of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, the St. Charles Park District and the Geneva Park District.
