Round Lake Beach teen killed by stray bullet fired into home, police say

A 15-year-old Round Lake Beach girl was killed Wednesday night when someone fired a bullet into her home, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said.

The task force said it appears the girl was not the intended target of the shooting, and that the bullet may have been a stray shot fired from near the house.

The girl’s identity has not yet been released by authorities. No one is in custody for the shooting.

Police were called to the 1500 block of Cherokee Drive at around 9:10 p.m. after receiving reports of an injured person. The officers arrived to find the girl wounded by gunfire. She was brought to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead

Round Lake Beach police requested the assistance of the task force. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to call (847) 546-2127.
