Round Lake woman killed in townhouse fire

A Round Lake woman was killed Tuesday night in a townhouse fire, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

She was identified Wednesday as Karli Corey, 32. The coroner’s office said an autopsy indicated Corey died from, “injuries consistent with the inhalation of products of combustion.”

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District said it was alerted to the fire in the 1400 block of Remington Lane at 10:08 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters said flames were showing from the second floor of the townhouse when they arrived. Corey was found on the second floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Firefighters from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, aided by neighboring departments, were able to control the fire within about 30 minutes.

The townhouse sustained significant damage and is uninhabitable, firefighters said.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators and local authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
