Route 31 from Third Street to South Street in Geneva will be closed to traffic on June 2 and 3, the city said in a news release, as Union Pacific conducts train bridge repairs.
The Route 31 underpass will be closed from 9 a.m. on June 2 until 5 p.m. on June 3, the release said, with a detour route available.
Union Pacific will be putting up signage to inform drivers of the closure, the release said. The official detour route will direct drivers heading north on Route 31 to use Fabyan Parkway, Route 25 and then State Street, and the reverse for drivers traveling south. Local traffic can also use Third Street to cross the Union Pacific-West railway tracks, the city said.
The repairs are dependent on weather and subject to change, according to the release. The city encouraged drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution given an expected influx of cars on Third Street during the time of the closure.
Officials said that updates to the project will be posted on the city’s website at https://www.geneva.il.us/.
