Two Sauk Village men are charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder in connection with the early morning slaying of 28-year-old Rico Mitchell and the shooting injury of another man Oct. 1.
Demetrius A. Davis, 24, and Terronce M. Harris, 19, were being held in the Cook County Jail and were scheduled to appear Wednesday in Cook County Courthouse in Markham, according to sheriff’s records online.
Davis, in jail since Oct. 6, and Harris, in jail since Feb. 19, were passengers in a vehicle that began following Mitchell late Sept. 30, police said. Investigators from Glenwood and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force determined Mitchell parked at 1:15 a.m. Oct. 1 on a residential street.
Davis and Harris exited their vehicle, opened Mitchell’s door and fired into the car, occupied by four people, police said. Mitchell, who had a concealed carry license, fired one shot, which went through the windshield, police said.
Mitchell was killed and one of the three people in the backseat was shot in the knee, police said.
Police said it began as a vehicular hijacking, noting parts from Mitchell’s car were recovered from Davis’ garage during a search of his home, along with a re-tagged and partly disassembled stolen Cougar belonging to Davis that was stored in a neighbor’s garage.
