Schneider helps bring $171K grant to Buffalo Grove, village using funds for comms equipment

Congressional leaders have helped the village of Buffalo Grove get more than $170,000 in federal funds officials say will be used to buy upgraded equipment for the emergency operations center.

In a March 25 news release, village officials recognized U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Highland Park, for playing a “pivotal role” in securing $171,400 for Buffalo Grove through House Resolution 1102, or The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, an initiative stemming from the community project funding program that enhances public safety and emergency response in the village.

“I am proud to have secured this funding of $171,000 to upgrade Buffalo Grove’s emergency operations center with communication technologies that will enable first responders to more swiftly react to emergencies,” Schneider stated in the release.

The village plans to purchase new communications equipment to upgrade the current system, which has been in Village Hall since the 1980s and is limited in expanding communications and information technology, according to the release.

As the village builds a new $17.9 million Public Works facility at 1650 Leider Lane, the plan is to relocate a “better designed and equipped” emergency operations center into the new facility, according to the release. Officials explained in the release that “supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures” have delayed the inclusion of proper equipment in the new building.

“The upgraded equipment will allow the village to mitigate threats, save lives and increase peace of mind for our community,” Village President Eric Smith stated in the release.

Smith said the federal dollars help fund a “critical initiative that supports our shared commitment to safety and well-being.”
