Skeletal remains found in Gary: officials

Officials said skeletal remains were found in Gary’s Midtown section.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office and its Medicolegal Death Investigation Team responded at 2:45 p.m. Friday to a property on the 2600 block of Jefferson Avenue, according to a release.

The body’s race and gender weren’t immediately known. The office said Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Krista Latham would help with an autopsy.

Public records show the property was purchased in October after it appeared to be abandoned in recent years.

A Gary Police spokesman could not be immediately reached Friday night.

Gary Police, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Lake County Crime Scene Investigation are assigned.

“If you have a loved one missing, please make a formal report, make sure to include a recent photo, height, hair color, weight, identifiers, what clothing they were last seen wearing and size,” the release stated.

The coroner’s office can be reached at 219-755-3265.
