Skokie July 4th parade brings out community groups, crowd favorites

The morning of July 4 turned somewhat cloudy in Skokie, but that helped cool the air when the Independence Day parade stepped off at noon at Oakton College, traveled north on Lincoln, then wound around Niles Center, passed in front of the Skokie Theater and traveled east on Oakton Street through the heart of downtown Skokie.

Many community groups carried banners, threw candy and waved flags from their floats, and the parade also enjoyed favorites such as the Jesse White Tumbling Team, Brazilian dancers, various marching bands and the Medinah Shriners flying carpets, which feature elaborately-dressed men driving go carts outfitted to look like flying carpets.
