Southland crime: Bank robbery in Frankfort Square, attempted murder in Posen, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. 

Alsip

DEALING ALLEGED: Jayden V. Kendrick, 19, 17000 block of Sycamore Avenue, Country Club Hills, was arrested April 7 and accused of manufacturing/delivering 30-500 grams of cannabis at 120th Street and Pulaski Road after officers recovered more than 9 ounces of marijuana in five sealed plastic sandwich bags and four knotted sandwich bags, as well as 154 new, empty dispensary style plastic bags, police said.

Burbank

GUN POSSESSION: Julian Delgado, 25, 14700 block of Mozart Avenue, Posen, was arrested April 20 and accused of unlawful possession of a weapon after officers recovered an unloaded pistol and an extended magazine in the 9400 block of Western Avenue and determined his gun permit was suspended, police said.

Evergreen Park

DEALING ALLEGED: Candida J. Carmargo, 41, 5000 block of 85th Street, Burbank, was arrested April 5 in the 9300 block of Pulaski Road and accused of delivery/manufacture of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis after officers recovered nearly 8¾ ounces marijuana, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Kenora V. Veal, 29, 200 block of Geneva Drive, Chicago Heights, was arrested April 18 and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun in the 3400 block of 92nd Street and determined he lacked a valid gun permit, police said.

PRIVACY INVASION: Michael Q. Chapman, 40, 9400 block of Sacramento Avenue, Evergreen Park, is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Bridgeview May 30, charged with nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images, according to a court spokesperson. Chapman, arrested April 27, sent moving and still images of another person to that individual’s telephone contacts April 26, police said.

Monee

ROAD RAGE: A Monee driver accused of using his vehicle to harass a female motorist in a parking lot in the 6000 block of Monee-Manhattan Road April 27 is scheduled to be arraigned May 16 on a charge of reckless driving, according to Will County records online. Jeremy Hudspeth, 38, 25700 block of McCorkle Avenue, was arrested April 28 based on the woman’s statement and a video recording, police said.

New Lenox

ID THEFT: Abigail K. Lyne, 27, 700 block of Ridge Road, Lemont, is charged with burglary, identity theft and possession of a controlled substance following an investigation April 30 at Planet Fitness, 700 W. Maple St. Lyne was arrested May 2 after investigators recovered credit cards, identification and wallets of other individuals and suspected cocaine when she returned to the facility, police said.

Oak Lawn

DEALING ALLEGED: Darnell M. Smith, 36, Chicago, was arrested April 19 in the 4700 block of Southwest Highway and accused of possession of 15-100 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of fewer than 10 grams of heroin with intent to deliver after detectives recovered 16.8 grams of suspected cocaine and 3 grams of suspected heroin, $14,358, three cellphones vacuum-sealer bags and a digital scale, police said. Smith was also accused of possessing schedule II and schedule III substances with intent to deliver after officers recovered 100 opiate-based pills and nine tranquilizer pills, police said.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Two people used a reciprocal saw April 21 in the 9500 block of West Shore Drive to cut through a padlock at a storage area and remove building repair and maintenance tools without permission, police said.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Cash was reported stolen during a daytime April 22 home break-in in the 10400 block of Keating Avenue, police said. Residents returned home to find an exterior door easier to open and a room rummaged through, police said.

ROBBERY CHARGES: Jamarcus Harris, 20, Donta K. Reed, 23, Damarion McClellan, 19, and a juvenile have been charged with more than 50 felony charges, including multiple counts of armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated unlawful restraint as of May 12, police said. The charges stem from an eight-month investigation into the 7:01 a.m. Aug. 30th holdup at 7-Eleven, 4501 95th St., by five armed and masked males, police said. Reed and McClellan are being held without bail in Cook County Jail and were scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Bridgeview May 15, according to sheriff’s records online.

Orland Park

RETAIL THEFT: Val J. Williams, 57, of Tacoma, Washington, was charged with felony retail theft after leaving Target, 15850 94th Ave., April 10 with merchandise collectively selling for $809, police said. Williams was arrested at 159th Street and 94th Avenue with two blenders and a vacuum cleaner, police said.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Patrida S. Frazier, 40, Urbana, was arrested April 11 and subsequently charged with aggravated battery and felony retail theft after taking four purses collectively selling for $654.88 at Nordstom Rack, 140 Orland Park Place, and then pushing an employee to the ground, police said.

ARMED VIOLENCE: Dominique Mancilla, 35, Whiting, Indiana, was arrested April 16 in the 15800 block of Park Hill Drive and subsequently charged with armed violence, unlawfully possessing a weapon and unlawfully possessing a controlled substance after officers recovered a loaded handgun, loaded magazine and suspected “crack” cocaine during a crash investigation in the 7100 block of 159th Street, police said. Mancilla was also accused of hit-run, resisting arrest, obstructing identification, driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision and improper lane use, police said.

Park Forest

AGGRAVATED DUI: Deneshia L. Smith, 36, 15500 block of Loomis Avenue, Harvey, was arrested April 16 after a mile-long pursuit at Lester and McGarity roads and charged with aggravated drunken driving/third DUI, driving on a revoked license, eluding police and speeding, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Alvin Woodard Jr., 34, Chicago, is scheduled to appear in Will County court May 5, charged with being a repeat offender/felon possessing a firearm, domestic battery and criminal damage to property, according to court records online. Officers arrested Woodard April 20 near Western Avenue and Sauk Trail after recovering a loaded, handheld short-barrel rifle with a loaded magazine, police said.

Posen

ATTEMPTED MURDER: Angel D. Galarza, 22, Oak Lawn, is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Bridgeview May 22, charged with attempted murder, according to a court spokesperson. Police said Galarza shot two people in a car March 28 near 147th Street and Western Avenue.

Tinley Park

STRANGULATION: Wayne A. Byas, 40, first block of 146th Street, Dolton, is scheduled to appear in Will County court May 22, charged with aggravated domestic battery/strangulation at a motel in the 18300 block of North Creek Drive, according to police and court records online

Will County

BANK ROBBERY: The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of three masked males wanted in connection with the 10 a.m. May 8 armed robbery of the BMO bank branch, 19500 Harlem Ave., in Frankfort Square. Security video shows at least one person with a handgun. The three, who wore gloves and hooded sweatshirts, fled in a gray Hyundai sedan, the FBI said. The May 8 robbery occurred less than two years after two masked males wearing hooded sweatshirts and gloves implied a handgun while robbing the branch, the FBI said. All of the suspects involved in the June 17, 2023 robbery also remain at large, the FBI said. The public can report tips at 312-421-6700 and tips.fbi.gov, according to the FBI.
