Southland crime: Forgery in New Lenox, drunken driving in Park Forest, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Alsip

PROSTITUTION ARREST: A 20-year-old homeless resident is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Bridgeview July 22, charged with prostitution, police said. Everlyn Maria Barrera-Finol was arrested June 4 at the Red Roof Inn, 12340 Cicero Ave., after inviting an undercover officer into her room, police said.

ASSAULT ALLEGED: A June 11 dispute over children’s behavior ended with two Alsip dads’ arrest in the 4300 block of Linecrest, police said. Brandon M. Manley, 38, is accused of aggravated assault after brandishing a box cutter and Robert J. Pavich, 35, is accused of reckless conduct after brandishing a kitchen knife, police said. A third neighbor defused the situation before officers arrived, police said.

Bridgeview

ASSAULT: A woman reported an unknown man pursued her and attempted to enter her locked car May 30 after she exited Walmart, 10260 Harlem Ave., which she had fled after he hugged, groped and kissed her while using a translating device to say he wanted to marry her, police said.

PARKING RAGE: A Willowbrook man accused of using his vehicle to knock a grocery shopping cart into another shopper on June 5 is scheduled to appear in Cook County court in Bridgeview July 23, charged with battery, police said. A cellphone video recording by the other shopper shows Brian J. Perron, 54, responding to the cart blocking him from leaving Tony’s Fresh Market parking lot, 8630 Harlem Ave., police said.

Burbank

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: An automated teller machine was discovered broken into May 18 during an early morning investigation of a burglary at Nick’s Barbecue, 6945 W. 75th St., police said. An officer responding to an alarm also found the glass broken out of two exterior doors, police said.

ARMED ROBBERY: Elijah Manning, 19, 4500 block of Raymond Drive, Brookfield, is charged with armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated robbery/firearm, according to police and Cook County sheriff’s records online. The charge stems from a Nov. 4 party at a home in the 8000 block of Mobile Avenue, in which Manning displayed a handgun as he demanded the another person’s cellphone, sweater, keys and identification, police said.

Chicago Ridge

DEALING ALLEGED: The proprietors of a Hickory Hills tobacco shop are charged with selling up to 500 grams of cannabis and an unspecified amount of nitrous oxide, police said. Chicago Ridge officers arrested Mohud Hussien, 42, and Hasan Z. Said, 54, Homer Glen, on June 11 after recovering 75 vape cartridges containing THC, 46 nitrous oxide containers and $1,843 cash from their store in the 9500 block of Roberts Road and 250 vape cartridges containing THC and $35 cash from their cars during searches, police said.

Crete

ARSON SENTENCE: A 48-year-old Chicago man accused of lighting his girlfriend’s car on fire in August was sentenced May 21 to two years in prison with credit for 114 days served, according to Will County court records on line. Jacquez T. Sims, who also has an Indianapolis address, pleaded guilty to the lesser of two arson counts in a three-count felony charge, court records show.

ILLEGAL GUN: Shawn G. Caffey, 24, 1300 block of Liberty Street, Crete, is charged with possessing a firearm with a revoked FOID and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, court records show. Caffey had a loaded 9 mm handgun with an extended magazine in the car when he was stopped June 6 in the 1300 block of West Exchange Street for speeding and driving on a suspended license, police said.

EMBEZZLEMENT ALLEGED: A 26-year-old fast-food employee was arrested June 7 and accused of two counts of felony theft after taking about $1,380, police said. Christopher Lockhart-Jenkins, 22600 block of Kings Road, Steger, was working a drive-thru window at Burger King, 1326 E. Steger Road, June 4, when he converted a $753.83 credit card charge into a personal bank account deposit and also took $626.36 from a cash drawer on June 6, police said.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: The Burger King, 1326 E. Steger Road, was reported burglarized June 10, with access made through a drive-thru window, police said.

Ford Heights

Alvin D. Keys, 22, 100 block of Carriage Lane, Sauk Village, wanted in Indiana for failing to return to detention, punched and kicked deputies during a June 12 traffic stop in the 1400 block of Woodlawn Avenue, according to Cook County sheriff’s police and Indiana court records online.

Lansing

SHOTS FIRED: A male fled in a car Tuesday evening after reportedly firing a gun outside the Travelodge motel, 17301 Oak Ave.

Lockport

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: A 25-year-old Lockport-area man who interfered with deputies trying to calm a distraught individual was arraigned June 11 on two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest, according to Will County sheriff’s police and Will County court records online. Brandon J. Stellwag physically confronted deputies April 24 in the 1300 block of Argo Lane in unincorporated Lockport before being shocked with a Taser by a deputy, sheriff’s police said.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Frederick T. Spiewak, 43, 400 block of Connor Avenue, unincorporated Will County near Lockport, was arrested and accused of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and domestic battery June 17 after actively resisting a deputy investigating a domestic complaint, Will County sheriff’s police said.

Mokena

DOMESTIC: Joseph J. Green, 25, 100 block of Providence Drive, Matteson, was arrested and accused of aggravated domestic battery June 13 in the 11900 block of Francis Road, police said.

New Lenox

FORGERY: A 31-year-old Matteson man accused of stealing a $2,200 check from the post office, replacing the payee’s name with his own and depositing the check in his bank account is charged with three counts of forgery, according to police and Will County court records online. Ryan E. Logan, 5700 block of Woodgate Drive, was taken into custody June 11 after investigators determined the check was deposited into his bank account, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: A 28-year-old DeMotte, Indiana man who entered a Speedway gas station June 14 with a loaded handgun in his pocket and without state-mandated permits was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a loaded firearm in a vehicle after officers found a second weapon in his car, police said. Nicholas J. Trapp is also charged with illegally carrying/possessing a firearm in public and two counts of illegally possessing ammunition, according to Will County court records online.

Oak Lawn

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: A local woman told police she returned to her home in an undisclosed block of Cicero Avenue June 4 to find a homeless acquaintance had broken in, police said. Investigators, who arrived after the acquaintance had left, determined the door locks and door frame had been damaged and a pair of athletic sneakers taken, police said.

SHOPLIFTING ASSAULT: Two women left Target, 4120 95th St., with stolen merchandise selling for $227 on June 11 after brandishing pepper spray and threatening to “mace” an employee who tried to stop them, police said.

Park Forest

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Justin M. Goodman, 40, 500 block of Buffalo Avenue, Calumet City , was arrested May 30 at Lincoln Highway and Indiana Street and charged with felony aggravated assault and reckless driving, police said.

AGGRAVATED DUI: A 42-year-old Country Club Hills man who had five previous arrests for drunken driving and five suspensions on his driver’s license was charged June 2 with two counts of aggravated drunken driving and driving on a suspended license for drunken driving, police said. Antuan Lee, 42, 17600 block of Hillcrest Drive, Country Club Hills, was arrested on Orchard Drive after failing to properly stop at a stop sign, police said.

AGGRAVATED DUI: A 44-year-old Chicago man whose license was revoked for drunken driving and who had three prior drunken driving arrests was charged with aggravated drunken driving June 2 after being stopped for disregarding a stop sign at Western Avenue and Indianwood Boulevard, police said. Chapale C. Mason, 44, Chicago, was also accused of aggravated driving while license revoked and drunken driving, police said.

ILLEGAL DRIVING: A 44-year-old Park Forest man was charged June 2 with aggravated driving on a revoked license after an officer determined his sport utility vehicle lacked a mandated car-ignition Breathalyzer during a traffic stop at Illinois Street and Orchard Drive, police said. Laurence A. Vanhoose, 100 block of Willow Street, received a second aggravated driving on a revoked license because he had a prior conviction of driving while license suspended for drunken driving, police said.
