Southland crime: Juveniles arrested near schools in Crete and Steger, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Alsip

DEALING ALLEGED: Tacario B. Allen, 19, 12000 block of Kenneth Avenue, Alsip, was arrested and accused of possessing 30 to 500 grams of cannabis with intent to deliver March 7 at 127th Place and Kenneth Avenue after officers recovered 10 ounces of marijuana, $590 cash, empty cannabis dispensary style boxes, cannabis dispensary style bags and a digital scale, police said.

Burbank

BUSINESS BURGLARY: Two individuals smashed exterior windows at Stadium Liquors, 5641 79th St., during a 6:20 a.m. Dec. 29 break-in, according to security video. The duo departed in a car a few minutes later, pausing to offer alcohol to a passing pedestrian, a witness said.

WINDOW SHATTERED: Officers found a shattered drive-thru window at Starbucks, 7788 Cicero Ave., but no one inside during an early morning March 8 walk-through, police said. Officers responded to firefighters, who spotted the window damage while responding to a 4:57 a.m. fire alarm there, police said.

THEFT: Police say an officer responding at 9:15 p.m. March 21 to a retail theft at Jewel-Osco, 7910 Cicero Ave., reported a person who escaped had a black object in hand.

Crete

PAINTGUN CHARGES: Three teens were charged with criminal offenses after running around outside Crete-Monee High School the afternoon of April 1 with what appeared to be guns, police said. Two of the youths involved willingly relinquished realistic paintball guns to officers but a third resisted and was forcibly placed under arrest, police said. Investigators found no real guns on the juveniles, school property or their vehicle, police said.

Homewood

FRAUD: Donte Rhodes, 22, Merrillville, Indiana, was arrested March 8 in the 17800 block of Halsted Street and accused of identity theft after making online purchases with a stolen credit card, police said.

Lansing

GUN POSSESSION: Jontavis F. Keaton, 36. Munster, Indiana, was arrested March 6 and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm pistol with a loaded magazine in the 2000 block of Thornton-Lansing Road and determined he had no state gun permits, police said.

Midlothian

BREAK-IN ATTEMPT: Two masked individuals attempted to force their way into the rear of a home in the 14400 block of Kolmar Avenue at 12:21 p.m. March 31, but fled without making entry, police said. Responding officers unsuccessfully searched the area with the aid of a police helicopter, police said.

Orland Park

GUN POSSESSION: Anthony C. Turner, 22, 4200 block of Oakwood Lane, Matteson, was arrested March 6 and subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon in a vehicle after officers recovered a .40 caliber pistol with a loaded magazine at 151st Street and Regent Drive during a stop for illegally tinted windows, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Jimmy D. Johnson, 66, Merrillville, Indiana, was arrested March 8 and accused of retail theft after taking 24 packages of vinyl flooring collectively selling for $1,403.75 at Lowe’s, 15601 La Grange Road, police said.

Palos Hills

DISORDERLY ALARM:  Kenneth L. Manning Jr., 28, Chicago, was arrested and accused of felony disorderly conduct March 30 after pulling the fire alarm of a business in the 8000 block of 111th Street when there was no fire, police said.

Park Forest

GUN THEFT: A 9 mm pistol was reported taken March 15 from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 300 block of Merrimac Street.

SHOOTING ALLEGED: Tiarra N. Pollnitz, 30, 300 block of Niagara Street, Park Forest, was arrested at 3:45 a.m. March 15 and accused of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm in that block after officers determined she fired several shots from a 9 mm handgun and lacked a gun permit, police said.

Steger

SUSPECTED DRIVE-BY: A vehicle passing a bar in the 3300 block of South Chicago Road at 11:30 p.m. March 28 may have been associated with shots fired that hit the parking lot and damaged two vehicles and an awning, police said.

DEADLY WEAPON: Officers arrested a 15-year-old boy for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a 16-year-old boy for unlawful possession of a weapon and took them to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet March 31 after a third teen was transported to a medical center for treatment of an apparent gunshot wound to the hand outside Columbia Central Middle School, police said. No weapons were recovered, police said.

Tinley Park

CHILD BATTERY: John Andy Garza, 54, 9000 block of Basswood Drive, Tinley Park, is scheduled to appear in Will County court April 14, charged with aggravated battery to a child younger than 13 and strangulation, according to court records online. Garza was arrested March 28, police said.
