Southland crime: Lockdown at Bloom High, ghost hunters at Lansing theater, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Burbank

ROBBERY: A Burbank man opted not to pursue charges Jan. 24 against an acquaintance who left him beaten and bleeding in the 6400 block of 87th Street after taking his gold chain, four cellphones and $200 on Jan. 4, police said. A witness told officers the acquaintance believed the victim/complainant had stolen his pills and a cellphone.

Chicago Heights

REPLICA GUN: Bloom High School was briefly locked down at 9:50 a.m. Friday in response to a report that a juvenile was armed with a handgun, police said. An investigation by local law enforcement, with the assistance of Cook County sheriff and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, determined the weapon was a replica firearm and posed no threat, police said.

Evergreen Park

DUI CRASH: Corey D. Williams, 30, Chicago, was arrested and accused of drunken driving Jan. 29 in the 3100 block of 88th Street after backing into a parked car, police said.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: A motorist reported Jan. 29 that another motorist pointed a handgun at him in the 2800 block of Francisco Avenue after he accidentally swerved into the other motorist’s lane.

Frankfort Square

ATM STOLEN: Two people broke into the All Star Sports Bar, 7818 Lincoln Highway, Jan. 12 and removed the ATM machine, Will County sheriff’s police said.

Lansing

GHOST HUNT: Six people who said they were on a ghost hunt were arrested Jan. 16 after breaking into a shuttered movie theater in the 16600 block of Torrence Avenue, police said. Officers found the group hiding on the roof and identified them only as being mostly from the north suburbs, with one from Ohio, police said. The venue, originally named Cinema 8 and later renamed Digiplex Lansing 8, closed in March 2020, according to New Vision Theatres.

RECKLESS CONDUCT: Audace Ndamiye, 31, Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested Jan. 27 and accused of reckless conduct and leaving the scene of a collision after striking two vehicles and knocking down a light pole while attempting to make a U-turn with his semi/trailer in a parking lot, police said. The tractor-trailer became ensnared by the pole’s concrete base, police said.

Mokena

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: James R. Felkamp, 46, 16400 block of Harold Street, Oak Forest, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer after hitting the officer in the hand and chest during a Jan. 28 road-rage investigation in the 9600 block of Willow Lane, according to police and Will County court records online.

Monee

DUI CRASH: Kimberly Dertz, 54, 8100 block of Deland Court, Tinley Park, was arrested and accused of drunken driving, improper lane use and possessing open alcohol during a Jan. 25 two-car crash investigation at Governors Highway and Court Street, police said.

Oak Lawn

ILLEGAL BULLET: Jeffrey Fox, 41, Oak Lawn, was arrested Feb. 1 at home and charged with unlawfully possessing ammunition without state-issued credentials after officers recovered a live bullet during a warrant-based search, police said. Officers initially encountered Fox at 10:40 p.m. Jan. 31 while searching the 10200 block of Central Avenue where a vehicle was hit by a bullet, police said. Fox was being held Wednesday in Cook County Jail and is to appear in Cook County court/Bridgeview on March 8, according to sheriff’s records online.

HOME BURGLARIZED: A resident who said he posts videos of his jewelry and on social media but never reveals his address or phone number reported Feb. 4 that his basement apartment on Austin Avenue was burglarized after he was lured away, police said. The resident said he received a text and an instagram message that a box was delivered to his previous home. The resident left his apartment at about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 3, leaving an exterior door unlocked. After learning nothing had been delivered to the previous residence, the resident returned to find a basement window open and his passport, credit cards, jewelry and a safe containing cash gone, police said.

Orland Park

FELONY FRAGRANCES: Three men were charged with felony retail theft after taking 13 boxes of perfume collectively selling for $1,846 from Macy’s, 1 Orland Square Drive, on Jan. 22, police said. Luis Mendez, Anthonio J. Teran-Arguello and Misael D. Zamora-Alverado, all of the same address, Chicago, were questioned with the assistance of a Spanish-speaking law enforcement officer from Orland Hills, police said.

Steger

SHOTS FIRED: Investigators recovered four 9 mm shell casings following reports of shots fired Jan. 29 in the Linden Apartments parking lot, 300 W. Steger Road. There were no reported injuries, police said.

ABUSE CONVICTION: A migrant living in Chicago Heights pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child younger than 5 in April 2022, according to Will County court records online. Jose M. Delacruz, 26, 200 block of Morgan Street, with the aid of a Spanish-speaking interpreter, was sentenced to 180 days in jail with two years’ probation and warned he could be deported, court records show. Delacruz was not related to the victim, police said.

Tinley Park

ILLEGAL GUN: Kendell Carr, 21, Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm during a Jan. 10 traffic stop at Interstate 80 and Harlem Avenue, Will County sheriff’s police said.
