Southland crime: Shots fired in Burbank, machine gun in Orland Park, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Burbank

RECKLESS SHOOTING: Daniel G. Aragon, 18, 8300 block of Latrobe Avenue, Burbank, was arrested Oct. 21 and subsequently charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after investigators using video from residential cameras placed him and his vehicle in the 7700 block of Mason Avenue Oct. 12, when four shots were fired, police said.

BURGLARY: Officers investigating a break-in at a house under construction in the 7700 block of Lockwood Avenue found a broken window and muddy footprints on the window frame and floor.

Crete

DOMESTIC: Atraya Cooper, 23, 1400 block of Wayne Drive, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Nov. 7, charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and three counts of aggravated domestic battery to a pregnant woman, according to Will County court records online. Cooper was arrested Sept. 16.

Evergreen Park

GUN POSSESSION: Aimya G. Younkins, 21, Chicago, was arrested Oct. 16 at 89th Street and Kedzie Avenue and accused of unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun under her passenger seat, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Jaquise Evans, 25, Chicago, was arrested Oct. 20 in the 2500 block of 95th Street and accused of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after officers recovered a loaded .40 caliber pistol on the floorboard, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Patrick M. Martin Jr., 24, Chicago, was arrested and accused of unlawful possession of a weapon after officers found him with a loaded 9 mm handgun without state-required permits during an Oct. 10 suspicious person investigation in the 2800 block of 88th Street, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Vincent S. Martin, 22, Chicago, and Nashanti J. Watkins, 22, Chicago, were arrested Oct. 25 and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a .45 caliber handgun in the alley in 9900 block of Artesian Avenue during an investigation of an in-store fight at Five Below, 9680 Western Ave., police said. Martin initially ran toward an officer in the store while reaching for his waistband then ran through the store with Watkins, who ran outside and then returned, police said.

Frankfort

GUN POSSESSION: Aaron J. Hanley, 22, 20200 block of Pine Hill Road, Frankfort, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Nov. 11, charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to court records online. Illinois State Police arrested Hanley Oct. 16 at an undisclosed location for driving at least 35 mph above the work-zone speed limit, and recovered an undisclosed firearm and determined he lacked state-required permits, court records show.

Homewood

GUN POSSESSION: Khalid Crockerhan, 19, Chicago, is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Midlothian, charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a vehicle/second offense and one count of assault, according to a court spokesperson. Crockerhan was arrested Sunday after brandishing a handgun at a drive-thru employee at a restaurant in the 17500 block of Halsted Street, police said. Illinois law sets the minimum age at 21 for possessing a firearm.

Lansing

REGISTRATION FAILURE: Daniel Moran, 46, 3700 block of 173rd Court, Lansing, was arrested Oct. 15 for failing to register as a violent offender since 2021, police said.

Oak Lawn

BURGLARY: An officer patrolling early Oct. 6 discovered the front door glass and an office window smashed and money taken at Car-X Tire & Auto, 10701 Cicero Ave.

THEFT: Two security cameras stolen Oct. 25 from a vacant house in an undisclosed block of Sproat Avenue wound up in a commercial trash bin after the property manager, who witnessed the theft off-site, summoned officers and triggered an audible alarm on the cameras, police said.

Orland Park

MACHINE GUN: Dakarai Richie, 18, first block of 25th Street, Chicago Heights, was charged with illegal possession of a machine gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and Brian N. Simms, 18, Gary, Indiana, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon Oct. 15 after officers in the 800 block of Orland Square Drive recovered a .40 caliber pistol with a loaded extended magazine and a 9 mm pistol equipped with a laser sight and adapter to allow it to fire automatically from Simms’ parked vehicle, police said.

Park Forest

GUN POSSESSION: Samuel D. Heatley, 19, first block of Abbey Lane, Park Forest, was arrested Oct. 18 and subsequently charged with underaged possession of a firearm after officers recovered a 9 mm handgun and loaded magazine from his room during a search, police said.  Illinois law sets the minimum age at 21 for possessing a firearm.

DUI CRASH: Valencia M. Green-Cobb, 47, 4000 block of Charleston Road, Matteson, was arrested Oct. 19 and accused of drunken driving and failing to provide information after striking another vehicle at Blackhawk Drive and Somonauk Street and then driving into a no-parking sign, police said.

NONREGISTERED OFFENDER: Derrelle D. Hulbert, 43, 400 block of Indianwood Boulevard, Park Forest, was arrested Oct. 24 and accused of failing to report a change of address, police said. A Cook County court convicted Hulbert of committing two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse when he was 16 and the victim was 13, according to the Illinois State Police sex offender website.

Steger

DUI CRASH: Luis D. Martinez, 24, Steger, was arrested and accused of drunken driving and hit-and-run Oct. 14 at 39th Street and Chicago Road after hitting a parked car and leaving without providing required information, police said.
